Cheapest transactional email APIs in 2026: pricing at 10k to 1M emails
Amazon SES has the lowest raw outbound sending rate in this comparison, while Banger starts at $5/month billed annually for 15,000 emails with mailboxes and marketing automation included. The cheapest transactional email API for your business depends on volume, billing term and the work you would otherwise build around sending.
Banger is an AI-native email platform for businesses. It combines real mailboxes, transactional email and marketing automation in one system, and lets AI agents like ChatGPT and Claude operate it through MCP and a REST API.
This comparison separates published sending allowances from the rest of the email operation. It does not rank deliverability from a price list or assume that a more expensive plan will reach more inboxes.
How much do transactional email APIs cost at each volume?
Prices below are USD per month, checked October 8, 2026, before tax and optional add-ons. The table uses the lowest published package we verified whose included allowance covers the target volume, rather than extrapolating overage rates. Packages may include more sends than the column requires. SES is metered instead of packaged.
Banger shows month-to-month pricing first, followed by the monthly equivalent of annual billing where published. Other numeric entries use monthly billing. Trials and introductory discounts are excluded from paid prices. A dash means we did not verify a matching public price; it does not mean the service cannot support that volume.
| Provider and price source | 10,000 emails | 50,000 emails | 100,000 emails | 1,000,000 emails | Free allowance |

| Resend | $20 | $20 | $35 | $650 | 3,000/month, up to 100/day |
| Postmark | $15 | $55 | $115 | $775 | 100/month |

What is included in those package prices?
- Banger: Starter covers 15,000, Pro 50,000, Business 250,000 and Scale 2 million. Every feature is included; contacts, domains and mailboxes are unlimited. The 100,000-send column therefore buys unused capacity in Business.
- Resend: Pro covers 50,000 for $20 or 100,000 for $35. The 1 million row uses Scale. The vendor’s Markdown price table exposes these volume choices explicitly.
- Postmark: Basic covers 10,000, 50,000, 125,000 or 1.5 million at the prices shown. The last two columns use 125,000 and 1.5 million packages. Inbound processing and some add-ons require other tiers.
- SendGrid: Essentials covers 50,000 or 100,000. The 1 million column uses Pro’s 1.5 million allowance. Twilio’s linked price PDF supplies the full volume table; its current pricing page supplies trial terms.
- Mailgun: Basic covers 10,000; Foundation covers 50,000 or 100,000; Scale covers 1 million. The live volume selector exposes the larger Foundation and Scale prices.
- Mailtrap: Basic covers the first three volumes. Enterprise’s 1.5 million package covers the last column. Email Sandbox and Email Marketing are separately priced products.
- Brevo: the live calculator was set to USD, monthly billing and Starter, without paid extras. Its 10,000 tier stores up to 1,500 contacts; the checked 50,000 and 100,000 tiers allow up to 500,000. No 1 million price is inferred.
Overage billing can change the cheapest choice, especially near a package boundary. Obtain a quote for your actual volume and required features before committing. The table is a reproducible package comparison, not a promise of the lowest negotiated bill.
Is Amazon SES still $0.10 per 1,000 emails?
Yes, AWS still publishes à la carte outbound sending at $0.10 per 1,000, plus attachment data and any additional services. That rate produces the SES row above. It is not the complete cost of operating email.
AWS also now offers packaged plans. Its pricing page says new accounts and qualifying inactive account-region combinations start on Essentials at $0.16 per 1,000 beginning July 21, 2026, with switching to à la carte available. At the same four volumes, Essentials outbound charges are $1.60, $8, $16 and $160 before data or add-ons. Check the actual plan selected in your account.
SES is infrastructure you integrate and operate. Include the application code, event handling, monitoring, subscriber management and human workflow your business needs around it. An engineering organization may already have that infrastructure; another business may save more by buying those capabilities together.
Is Banger the cheapest option at every volume?
No. Banger’s entry price is low, but the published Business and Scale packages cost more than several sending-only options at the volumes above. The fair case for Banger is the included email operation: real mailboxes, transactional sending, marketing automation and agent access in one plan.
For example, a business sending 10,000 messages can use Starter for $6 month to month or $5/month billed annually. It can also use Broadcasts, Journeys, signup forms, segments, experiments and Approvals without purchasing a separate feature tier. Mailboxes and contacts do not add a per-seat or per-contact line to that sending plan.
At higher volume, compare the full replacement cost. If you need only an API call to deliver receipts, the extra workflow capabilities may not be what drives your purchase. If you also need your AI to run customer email and handle replies, compare Banger vs Resend, Postmark and Mailgun.
What can a cheap email API cost you beyond the subscription?
Deliverability work
Authentication, expected content, list quality and sending behavior still matter. A provider’s low price is not evidence of poor delivery, and a high price is not a guarantee of inbox placement. Budget for inspecting failures, maintaining valid sending identities and responding to complaints.
Test actual password resets, receipts and account alerts with representative templates. Check sender identity, links and reply behavior. A request accepted by an API is not proof that the recipient saw the message; your application needs an understandable delivery state.
Dedicated IPs and support
Dedicated infrastructure and support can be included, optional or gated by tier. Postmark, for example, lists dedicated IPs from $50/month for qualifying Pro-or-higher volume. Resend lists a $30/month dedicated-IP add-on on Scale with an eligibility threshold. Compare the conditions, not just the add-on number.
A dedicated IP is not automatically the right purchase for every sender. Ask what operating responsibility it introduces and how your sending pattern fits the provider’s requirements. Likewise, distinguish access to a support channel from a contractual response commitment.
Logs and integration maintenance
Retention affects how far back you can investigate a failed notification. Webhooks need reliable processing, and retries should avoid duplicate messages. Include the time needed to maintain that integration and explain failures to customers.
If an agent operates the workflow, review its access and approval boundaries as well. Banger’s remote MCP connection lets Claude or ChatGPT prepare email operations while a person decides human Approvals.
How should you calculate your own monthly bill?
Start with expected recipients, not API requests. Add password resets, receipts, account notices and any other email sharing the allowance. If the vendor counts receiving against the same quota, include inbound traffic. Resend explicitly says each received email counts toward its transactional quota.
Then model both normal volume and your busiest month. Check the minimum package, overage settings, contact storage, required features and billing term. A yearly discount commits more cash up front; an advertised trial does not establish the ongoing price.
Finally, test the operational path before migrating everything. Verify your domain, send to an address you control, receive a reply where needed and inspect the delivery record. Keep old and new sending triggers from running simultaneously during the change.

Frequently asked questions
Which service has the lowest raw sending rate here?
Amazon SES à la carte outbound sending, at $0.10 per 1,000 before data and optional services. New accounts may default to Essentials, so check the selected plan.
Is there a free transactional email API?
Yes. Banger, Resend, Postmark, Mailgun, Mailtrap and Brevo publish ongoing free allowances. Their monthly totals, daily limits and included capabilities differ, as shown above.
Does SendGrid still have a permanent free plan?
No. Twilio announced its retirement in 2025. The current Email API pricing page offers a 60-day trial at 100 emails a day.
Why is Banger $5 in some comparisons and $6 in others?
$5 is Starter’s monthly equivalent when billed annually. The month-to-month price is $6. Both include 15,000 monthly emails and every feature.
Does the cheapest API include marketing automation and inboxes?
Do not assume so. Compare the specific package and any separate products. Banger includes real mailboxes, Broadcasts and Journeys on every plan.
