Claude email marketing: campaigns, newsletters and automated follow-ups

Claude can run email marketing when you connect it to an email platform that manages subscribers, campaigns and automated flows. With Banger, Claude can prepare welcome Journeys, launch Broadcasts, segments and reply triage while a person controls approval decisions.

Banger is an AI-native email platform for businesses. It combines real mailboxes, transactional email and marketing automation in one system, and lets AI agents like ChatGPT and Claude operate it through MCP and a REST API.

The email automation your AI runs. Here is how to turn that into a repeatable marketing operation, starting with one audience and one measurable customer outcome.

What can Claude do for email marketing on its own?

Without a connected platform, Claude can help plan campaigns, draft messages, refine subject lines and explain results you provide. That is useful preparation, but a conversation is not your subscriber database. It does not by itself maintain your marketing consent records, sending domain, unsubscribe state or recurring workflow.

Claude also has a Google Workspace connector that can send, reply to and forward Gmail messages, subject to the account’s permissions. Anthropic documents approval before sending by default. That makes individual correspondence possible; it does not turn the Gmail connector into a complete campaign system. Anthropic’s connector documentation, checked October 8, 2026.

For marketing, give Claude a platform where the audience, message, schedule and outcome exist as persistent resources. The agent can then prepare work you can inspect later, and another person can understand what is scheduled without reading the original conversation.

How do you connect Claude to an email marketing platform?

Use the Claude setup guide to add Banger’s remote MCP connector at https://api.bangermail.com/mcp. Complete OAuth for the intended workspace. The server uses Streamable HTTP and dynamic client registration, so you do not need to paste a client secret into the conversation.

Once connected, ask Claude to inspect the workspace, available sender domains and current resources. Start with a read before requesting a campaign. This avoids duplicate audiences and helps reveal whether your domain or mailbox still needs setup.

Then supply the business facts: what changed, who benefits, which recipients are eligible and what they should do next. A good brief names the customer outcome, such as completing onboarding or returning to an unfinished project. “Write a great campaign” leaves too many important decisions implicit.

The MCP overview explains the connection. Your application can continue sending real events through the REST API; Claude uses those facts to prepare the email operation around them.

Which six workflows can Claude prepare?

Replace the examples below with your real product, event names, dates and approved claims. Each prompt intentionally asks for an inspectable result before release.

1. A welcome Journey that helps customers get started

Create a welcome Journey for confirmed subscribers who have just opened an account. Send an introduction, then help them complete their first project, then explain the next useful feature. Inspect the events we actually have before choosing triggers and conditions. Show me the audience, timing, messages and exit criteria, and prepare the first activation for human approval.

Give each message one purpose. If customers have already completed the action, they should receive the appropriate next step rather than a reminder to do it again. Review the proposed conditions alongside the copy. The welcome sequence guide gives a starting structure.

2. A launch Broadcast with a defined audience

Prepare a launch Broadcast for confirmed subscribers interested in reporting. Use these release notes as the factual source. Explain the main benefit, link to the release page and include a clear next action. Show the sender, reply address, eligible recipient count and preview. Keep it unsent until I review the final version.

A launch date and a product availability date can differ. State both if necessary. Ask Claude to remove any claim that is absent from your release notes rather than filling the gap with a plausible feature. A useful launch email creates a reason to try something the recipient can already access.

3. A segment based on observed behavior

Inspect our available contact properties and events. Propose a segment of eligible trial users who started setup but have not completed their first project. Explain the exact inclusion and exclusion conditions and show a count before preparing any email. Do not infer missing events from an empty field.

This is a data-definition task before it is a writing task. Agree what “active,” “trial” and “completed” mean. A segment using stale billing status can send an upgrade message to someone who already paid. Keep the segment definition readable enough for the person responsible for the product data to check.

4. An A/B subject-line experiment

Prepare two subject-line variants for this Broadcast: one focused on the customer benefit and one on the specific new capability. Keep the body, audience and sender the same. Show the experiment settings, proposed success metric and winner rule before release. Explain what the test can and cannot tell us.

Changing several things at once makes interpretation harder. Review the sample, timing and metric before sending. Do not declare a winner just because the first few recipients opened one version more often; use the experiment’s actual result and treat weak evidence as inconclusive.

5. A win-back Journey with a clear stop condition

Draft a win-back Journey for eligible customers whose last product activity was more than 30 days ago. Verify the activity field and subscription status first. Offer one useful reason to return without inventing a discount. Show when someone exits, especially after renewed activity, and prepare activation for human approval.

The goal is renewed value, not more messages. Supply a real improvement, saved work or relevant feature that gives the customer a reason to return. Check how the proposed flow handles people who become active again between steps.

6. Reply triage that preserves customer context

Review replies to the latest launch in our marketing mailbox. Suggest Labels and Triage rules for product questions, account problems and unsubscribe requests. Preview which messages each rule would match. Draft answers to straightforward product questions from our approved documentation and flag the rest for a person.

Replies can explain why a campaign worked or failed. They also contain requests outside the agent’s authority. A billing dispute or an unusual promise should reach the responsible person. Start with a preview of proposed rules so an overly broad match does not hide useful feedback.

How do approvals work with Claude email campaigns?

Banger requires a person to approve a Journey’s first activation and material changes. Policy-gated sends also wait for approval. Claude can prepare work and describe what is waiting; the agent cannot make the human approval decision.

Review the actual proposed operation: audience, exclusions, sender, reply address, content, timing and follow-up conditions. An approved paragraph is not approval of an unspecified recipient list. If a later edit changes the intended audience or behavior, review the changed operation again.

Keep three states separate in reports: prepared, approved and executed. Ask Claude to report the current state and supporting logs rather than collapsing all of them into “done.” After release, inspect delivery results and replies before deciding what to change next.

What does Claude email marketing cost with Banger?

The table covers Banger’s sending plans, not any separate Claude subscription. All Banger features are included on every plan; contacts, domains and mailboxes are unlimited, and inboxes are free.

Banger planMonthly equivalent with annual billingMonth-to-month priceEmails per month
Free$0$03,000, up to 100 a day
Starter$5$615,000
Pro$20$2450,000
Business$200$240250,000
Scale$2,000$2,4002,000,000

Check current pricing against your total expected sends. A weekly newsletter to 2,000 people uses about 8,000 sends across four editions, before welcome messages and product email. Counting contacts alone will not tell you how much monthly sending capacity you need.

Can Banger replace Mailchimp or Klaviyo for this workflow?

Banger can replace their email campaigns and automated email flows, while adding real mailboxes and human Approvals in the same system. Compare your actual workflows and integrations before migrating.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude send a newsletter?

Yes, with a connected platform that provides campaign sending. In Banger, use a Broadcast with an eligible audience, preview and reviewed sending instructions.

Can Claude manage recurring follow-ups?

Yes. Claude can prepare Banger Journeys, including triggers, messages and timing. A person approves the first activation and material changes.

Do I need to share an SMTP password with Claude?

No. Banger’s remote MCP connection uses OAuth. SMTP remains available for applications that need it, but it is not required for this connector workflow.

Is there a free way to try it?

Banger Free includes every feature and 3,000 emails per month, up to 100 a day, without a credit card. Your Claude access is separate.

Can Claude approve its own campaign changes?

It cannot decide Banger’s human Approvals. Ask it to prepare the work and identify the decision waiting for you in the web app.
